Those beating the drums of war know exactly what's at stake. Their self interest. We know ScoMo, Sinodinis, Hockey and Pyne, among others, already have their snouts in AUKUS-affiliated think tanks and lucrative 'consultancies'. I would appreciate our so-called media investigating just how many parliamentarians hold defence stocks in companies like Elbit, IAI, Raphael and others. It may not change much but at least we'll know who the biggest sell-outs in the parliamentary ecosphere are.
With respect, you just listed exclusively LNP people when the policy is completely bipartisan and the ALP has had nearly 4 long years now to change course. They enthusiastically support it too.
Labor’s stand on AUKUS, NW shelf and probably Beetaloo will see a huge drop off in support. My politics was formed by Gough and I was a member of the party for a while. The current Labor ersatz group with almost unlimited power are a pack, so far removed from that commitment to social justice and equity, of wet nappies. However, they will all leave politics with well padded bank accounts and networks and talk about how hard it all was. Try been a homeless person in Queensland or a notch lower, if you can imagine that level of deprivation, a homeless, young indigenous person with an addiction health problem. Most of our social problems stem from political decisions not deficiencies in people.
I would also include that most of the media here are complicit in pumping up poorly researched material on AUKUS , social policy and the concept that current economic theory and policies are based on evidence and models that actually look at the real world and the consequences of policy decisions. Anyway, love your work Amy.
Correct 💯💯PM Albanese speaks of “dealing respectfully “ with the US . There are other , more accurate words for it . The current US regime has no respect whatever for
How do they do it? Bringing Pezzullo out is unbelievable. The man is a horror and no one needs to hear his opinions on anything. He and his mate Katheryn Campbell proved to be two of the most disgusting 'born to rule' bureaucrats we have ever produced.
At least if he has a say he needs to be introduced as a disgraced and disgraceful former government employee.
BLOODY WELL DONE, AS AN OLDER person of our wonderful nation that has never seen a day of war in 72 years of life. I am daily scared shitless by the atrocities being dealt by the warmonger Netannobody and his mate nutbag hairdoo cant mention that lowlifes name
Albo needs to have a crack on behalf of this wonderful nation and say no more to America no more to war, no more to arms dealers, america furkin up this planet
Gen Xer here seconding the BLOODY WELL DONE. You are, unfortunately, in a minority in this country speaking out for what is right. Too many bloody lap dogs chasing at the heels of their masters to see the forest for the trees.
I feel like I've been lied to about A Rules Based Order. Where are the international institutions upholding the rule of law? Oh that's right, they only apply to "some" countries.
The US has made a farce of the UNSC with its veto power. Might is right. Nothing to see here with 57000+ Gazans killed in less than 2 years. Plus all the missing and disappeared. I can only hope that if this planet survives, there may be future generations who acknowledge the crimes against humanity, war crimes, genocide, oppression and injustices done to the Palestinians.
Our leaders are gutless, soft cocks, so piss weak they wouldn't stain newly bleached cotton.
I’m an ex submariner with over a decade of experience in the intelligence world (many years ago). AUKUS is a disaster that was never going to pay off, even without Trump doing his best to destroy national security.
I think we should cancel the American part of AUKUS and move straight to the AUK section to build the new British-designed Astute class subs in Adelaide.
We don't need America - it only takes 5% of our exports. China, which takes 30%, is far more important to us.
The UK are arguably even more militaristic than the Americans are. They are frothing at the mouth to send troops to Ukraine and are extremely supportive of the IDF.
Declare a policy of armed neutrality instead I say.
Thank you again , Amy , for your magnificent demolition of this spineless PM, FM and apology for a Defence Minister, who appear more than content to throw away our nation’s sovereignty, as they bow and scrape and grovel to every whim ,,order , and suggestion from America . At this perilous time their spineless , brainless attitude re AUKUS and the genocide occurring in Palestine is unforgivable . Gough would be disgusted . My question is , how can this not be considered treasonous to the future of our nation ?
Albanese stressing that the US acted “unilaterally” is such an obvious and total whopper - clearly, Trump and the US war machine were acting in complete BILATERAL coordination with Israel. What the heck is that funny little fellow Albanese on about?
He appears to be “on about “ clinging to his own personal power , caring nothing for the National Interest , and preferring to grovel to America . Utterly unforgivable.
Could not agree more. Albo, grow a set mate, Australians don’t need to be in bed with what is becoming a very unstable country. The Oxford definition for rogue state is: a nation or state regarded as breaking international law and posing a threat to the security of other nations. Mmmm, ok, that’s getting a little bit close for comfort.
Flick the AUKUS deal, head up to Canada and go have a long lunch with Mark Carney. I’m saddened that Tanya fell for the appease Trump thing too, and Penny. Very disappointing. Oh, and Trump, thanks for the tariff, nice one.
Personally, I would like to see Neoliberalism deep-sixed and a return to something resembling a true democracy. I’m a Democratic Socialist, so for me the Scandi countries represent a modicum of success, but they’re far from perfect. I’m not a fan of blue or red in Australia. They walk like dinosaurs and talk like dinosaurs, therefore, they must be dinosaurs. I particularly dislike climate vandalism and inequality and the current Australian government isn’t giving me many good vibes there. Australians currently require 5.1 earths to maintain their current lifestyles, which is problematic. The math doesn’t math. We’ve only got one earth. As a WA boy, I’m not thrilled about letting Woodside rip until 2070 either. Eh, it’s a bloody long list JC. We’re a rich country, why are so many of us doing so badly? Rhetorical.

True #AUKUS is a dodgy deal from start to finish for Australia

Well said . Indeed , Gough would be disgusted with this spineless , grovelling lot .
I agree

their “useful bases “ down there in the Pacific.

These anglosphere allies are just as militaristic as the US, if not more so. Fuck Mark Carney, we should go it alone.
It’s a problematic world JC with no peaceful end in sight.
I feel we should start with our own country. The decline in our liberty over the past 3 decades is truly stunning.
I don’t trust AUKUS anymore I don’t know why but something is not right with them anymore
“No-one with any political sense is going to be in a hurry to attack Welcome To Country”
Haha Peta Credlin did. Says a lot about her, I reckon.
Absolutely 💯
Someone talking sense, at last. Thanks Amy.
. . . as if we ever had it!
